A. A.

Talking to Shepard Custom Cabinets is the first step. They will help you decide what you want from your custom cabinets. Sending us your room dimensions, either via drawings or architectural blueprints, is a great place to begin. After we learn the extent of work required we can provide you the first cost estimate. This will start the planning phase. We can help you make the final decisions about what you want.

B. Design Details & Consultation

After we have done our initial due diligence, and provided an estimate to you for the cost, we will start the design and consultation phase. We will communicate with you via email and phone, and we will need to visit the site in order to take final measurements. This is where we finalize the design plans and estimate the time it will take to complete the project. We also create a complete list of supplies. This phase will determine the cost of the project.

C. Exact Drawings and Down Payment

This step will allow us to create a payment schedule and provide you with ample notice for any future payments. The payment schedule coincides with the subsequent phases of the project, the final plans, cabinet fabrication, and the final building.

After the planning phase is completed, your project will be added to our schedule once the down payment has been paid. Once the planning phase is complete, we will have drawings that include all necessary measurements and materials. One of the main reasons we have opted for these processes is due to the challenges that arise from changes once the fabrication starts. Once you give us your instructions, we will fabricate your cabinets.

D. Building the Cabinets and On-Site Installation

This is where all the pieces fall together. Your cabinets will be built and crafted at our Anaheim location. After the fabrication phase is complete, we will transport everything onto your property for final installation. The last deposit is paid when the whole project is done, which typically takes between 4 to 8 weeks. Because custom cabinets are made to order, the turnaround time on your project will depend on various factors such as the style of cabinets, how many pieces, and the labor time for each unique piece.

Different styles of cabinet doors
Selecting the proper cabinet door is important because it is the most visible part of your cabinet face. There are two types of cabinet doors that can affect the overall appearance of your cabinet: the style and how it is attached to the frame. Each of these factors will impact the character of your cabinet.

Cabinet Door Attachments
A full-overlay cabinet door completely covers the front face of the cabinet, and consequently provides more storage space. This one-continuous low profile surface is very popular today because the cabinet frame is covered in 100 percent.

Cabinets with inset doors have their door built into the frame and sit flush when closed. Sometimes you may see the hinges attached to an outside surface. This requires precision during fabrication.

Partial overlay cabinets expose more of the cabinet frame with approximately 1″ to 2″.

The Differences between Cabinet Door Styles
The recessed panel door makes it look like the center panel is depressed into the cabinet, give it a sleek streamlined feel. This design is popular in contemporary cabinets and offers many design options.

Frameless glass front cabinets have a single glass pane, but no dividing mullions.

Mullion frame doors have horizontal and vertical bars that break down the cabinet’s face into sections. The glass inserts in the panes and sections allow you to see the interior of each cabinet.

Cabinets with raised panel doors have a lifted central panel with a recessed border around it. Raised panel doors are a very popular and can be seen on classic to current day cabinets.

The slab cabinet door, or flat-panel door, is simply a single slab of lumber and is totally flat.

Handcrafted bath cabinets and custom vanities
A well-designed bathroom can make a big difference in your quality of living. You can also add custom bath cabinets to enhance the look and increase the storage space. When you are thinking about the design of your custom cabinets and vanities, it is important to make a list with all your storage requirements. Do you need makeup storage built into your vanity? Do you have an abundance of items in your bathroom, and would love to have as much storage space as possible? Are you looking for cabinet space to store towels? Once you have gleaned your specific requirements, an expert carpenter at Shepard Custom Cabinets can assist you come up with a perfect design.

To make the most of your space and renovate your bathroom, you can install a custom-made vanity. By hand making creative storage solutions for your bathroom cabinets and vanities, you can improve the aesthetics and functionality of your bathroom. A retreat you will feel serene and relaxed after a long hectic day.

Custom Media Centers Handcrafted
In addition to custom cabinets, one the more popular pieces of furniture we build at Shepard Custom Cabinets is custom media centers, otherwise known as entertainment centers. An entertainment center typically houses your television, sound systems, video game consoles, and related paraphernalia. Because your television is a central piece in your day to day living, many of our customers have found that this is a great opportunity to improve the aesthetic of their living space and get a custom-built entertainment center.

Ready-to-assemble (RTA), media centers that are often made of cheaper materials such as particleboard don’t last long. At Shepard Custom Cabinets we only use the best quality hard wood to build your custom media center, and this will make your media center look fantastic today, as well as stay looking great years into the future. An endless tangle wire mess in the middle of your living room can distract from your surroundings and make it difficult to see. We can help you design cabinets that will accommodate your wires and conceal clutter.

Stains and Finishes
In addition to the style of your cabinet doors, the size and shape, the type of materials, you can also add more character by choosing a finish. To give the cabinet a desired characteristic, such as enhanced protection or alterations to its color or texture, a finish is applied to it.

Waterborne finishes are used to add protection against scratches and damage, and it is non toxic to the environment. Waterborne finishes are fast drying and can mirror the look of many other stains and finishes. Waterborne finishes are great if you like the look of grain patterns on your wood and want to change its color.

Glaze finishes can add texture and color to your cabinets’ surfaces. They can be applied directly on top of stained or painted cabinets. Glazing cabinets can give them a shiny look. It will also protect against moisture and damage. You can paint your cabinets to hide the wood grain, and you can change the color of your cabinets as much as you like. A popular option is to paint your cabinets flat white. There are a ton of options out there, and the expert craftsmen at Shepard Custom Cabinets are here to help, so give us a call today.
